Antonio Carluccio OBE, a widely renowned Italian chef and restauranteur, passed away today after a fall at his home.
His agent has issued a statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce that Commendatore Antonio Carluccio OBE sadly passed away this morning.”
Raised in Italy, Antonio raised to culinary prominence after a childhood that featured a mushroom collection and a young adulthood of food books and opening restaurants.
He became a Commendatore when appointed by the Italian Government in 1998. He was also honoured as an OBE by Her Majesty The Queen in 2007 as a caterer.
He opened his first restaurant in 1981 at Neal Street Restaurant in Covent Garden, London.
He later gained more recognition as a host of Two Greedy Italians on the BBC with Gennaro Contaldo.
More to come…
